A classic balck and white musical which elucidates through a Harmonium ( atraditional Indian musical instrument) almost, a human medium of life’s journey. Winner of two ards in the 22nd Asian Film festival 1976 Seoul and Four State Wards.

Synopsis

Landlord Bhupendra Kishore purchased a HARMONIUM for his only daughter Bimala.

Bimala lost her mother and Hannonium became her first friend. With the time landlord system abolished.

Bhupendra Kishore died accidentally.Bimala had to leave the palatial building and took refuge in a small cottage under the care of truted servant Biiju. Along with other things Harmonium was also auctioned.

Harmonium was bought by a middle class clerk for his only daughter Basanti. Ashok. a young man. Was appointed as a music tutor-to Basanti. Love between the pair forced them to elope. The raged father' sold away the Harmonium to a shop.

Ratan, a vagabond, purchased Harmonium to gift this lover Shyama, a prostitute by profession. He desired to teach music to Shyama and wanted her to give up prostitution and become a respectable singer but it was interfeared by the killer Haran who owned Shyama, resulting murder of Ratan. Harmonium was sold again' and bought by a Government Officer,a widower.

To the surprise of Bimala she was invited to teach music to the officer's daughter Shyamali.

The story ends with Bimala's nostalgia.
