Synopsis

APU RETURNS AFTER 60 YEARS

“Apu” - the legendary enduring and endearing character is all set to return on silver screen after 60 years in a Bengali period drama feature film, “Avijatrik”. The storyline is based on the concluding part of the epic novel “Aparajito”, written by one of the leading Bengali litterateurs, late Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay. The film will be directed by Subhrajit Mitra. It is the sequel to the classic “Apu Trilogy”, directed by Satyajit Ray. The plot takes off from where “The Apu Trilogy” had ended in 1959, with “Apur Sansar”. This film, “ Avijatrik”, focuses on the wanderlust of the main protagonist and the story of a sublime bond between a father and a son. The story is of Apu and his 6 year old son Kajol..

We are set to witness the comeback of other reminiscing characters in different real & surreal poetic forms, such as Dugga, Aparna, Ranu Di and Lila. Though Lila was never a part of the trilogy, she was a major character in the original novel. Another surprise entry for the audience would be the introduction of Apu’s middle aged adventurer friend, Shankar, who also happened to be another legendary fictional character by the author himself and is set to become the driving force in Apu and Kajol’s life in this film.

“Avijatrik” will witness a plethora of international cast and crew. Shooting of “Avijatrik” is complete. The film has been shot with an ensemble of experienced cast and crew at various locations in Varanasi, Dooars in North Bengal, Taki, Bolpur and parts of Kolkata, in black & white to retain the rich aesthetic flavor that compliments its backdrop of 1940’s India. Music of the film is by internationally acclaimed exponents of the Indian classical genre. Major National and International production houses are extending their help for technical assistance and international and national distribution opportunities attempting to recreate the magic of Apu on big screen again, to enthrall the audiences.

There’s more to the story than we all know besides the three masterpieces that had sketched the life of Apu, so far; which awaits the last journey of this evergreen character.

Expect to revisit nostalgia of Apu all over again with this black & white feature “Avijatrik”.
